Vermilion RCMP arrest suspect after rural break and enter
Vermilion, Alta. – On Dec. 31, 2023, Vermilion RCMP received a complaint of theft of fuel from a rural property South of Innisfree. Witnesses observed the suspect using a unique vehicle during the theft. Information was obtained suggesting that the same unique vehicle had attended a gas station in Innisfree.
RCMP attended the gas station and reviewed CCTV, and confirmed that it was the same unique vehicle used in the theft and that it had been reported stolen out of Lloydminster at an earlier date.
As a result of the investigation, Christian Ruston (24), a resident of the County of Vermilion River was charged with:
- Possession of stolen property over $5000;
- Fail to comply with Release Order (x2).
Ruston was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody and is to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Lloydminster on Jan. 9, 2024.
“In this case, a high-quality CCTV system was able to assist investigators in identifying the suspect.” Says Sergeant Corey Buckingham of Vermilion RCMP. “Once Ruston was identified, efforts were made to bring him into custody as soon as possible to face the appropriate charges.”
